Cambridge | A Postcard // Video!

Hello again, I have another video for you all today. At the end of June I was lucky enough to go to a summer school at Cambridge. I got to attend lectures and social events so I was very busy as you can imagine, but I managed to capture some bits of footage to create a little video postcard for you all of my stay. I had such a great time down there and its really helped me with my thoughts on University. If you take anything away from my little video I would like it to be that sometimes you have to find your own opportunities in life and sieze them. I wouldn't have known about this summer school at all if I hadn't researched about other summer schools and asked my teacher to look into art history opportunities for me. Before I knew it Cambridge were sending me the tickets for the programme and I've been completely inspired by my experience.

I hope you enjoyed the video, have a great day!

Last week me and my friend decided to hop on the train to Hope, a village in Derbyshire and walk to Castleton. It was lovely weather and we walked along a river and up past the cave and castle at Castleton. We also had lunch in this lovely little coffee shop and sat by the water to catch up. I took a few shots with my DSLR so as always I thought I'd share photos I took from our walk. The weather has been so lovely over the past few weeks and it's so nice to finally be able to relax. I feel so lucky living in Sheffield that I can be in the middle of the Peak District in less than half an hour away from the city.

A Day In Cornwall // Video

Today I am very excited to share my second video on my Youtube channel with you all. I collected some footage that I took from our little trip down to Cornwall back in June and I've put it all together to create a little postcard from our first day down there, as the day after I was at a University open day. The footage was taken at Lands End and also Coverack where we stayed, which is one of the most beautiful places I've come across in the UK.

I also wanted to let you know that I know my content is few and far between at the moment but I'm having a bad case 'bloggers block', as one does when they try and get back into blogging after their exams and I'm working on creating some fresh content for you all including videos! So thank you for popping back and supporting my efforts here.

Have a lovely day and I hope you enjoyed the video x

Ps. I may also have a Cambridge video coming for you very soon!

10 Facts About Me.

Hello again, since I last did a post like this I must have only had around 30 followers. So I figured as a lot of you may not have seen my last "facts about me" post that it would be fun to do an updated one. I'm not the most fascinating person on the planet, but hopefully this will be a nice post to help you get to know the Emily behind Emmihearts a bit better.

1. I love photography // If you've been reading this blog for a while that probably goes without saying. I've always loved visual art from a young age and taking photos on my cheap Lumix digital camera, but I definitely grew into this passion of mine. I never felt good enough at art or photography despite loving it when I did GCSE art, but thankfully blogging has made me realise just how much I love taking photographs, and I am planning on persuing the subject at university.

2. Pizza is my favourite food // A very common fact I know but pizza is seriously my weakness. I have it at least once a week and I make it from scratch. My favourite toppings are tuna and my own special peppery topping which includes red, green and orange peppers, jalapenos, and onion.

3. I'm an introvert // I've always been very shy and not an open book at all. I do have anxiety as well but I've always been one of those people that is much more satisfied with one or two very close friends rather than having a big friendship group. It also means my school reports in primary school were filled with comments such as "could get more involved in group discussions", despite my grades always being fine.

4. I've previously lived in Scotland and Kent // Although I was born in Sheffield and live back here now, I have travelled to and lived in the north and south of Britain with my parents.

5. My music taste is pretty varied // Being from Sheffield the Arctic Monkeys are one of my favourite bands and I love rock and alternative music, however I have a real guilty pleasure for eighties music... and Taylor Swift (life's too short to deny how catchy her songs are).

6. I'm at my third college // Arguably not the most character defining trait, however it's taken me a lot longer than some to realise what I want to do with my life. Anxiety has meant I've escaped situations I didn't think were for me and I'm glad it's worked out this way. Luckily for me my grades have never suffered, it's just a bit depressing sometimes considering many of my friends are already at university. But I'm now doing subjects I love and I can't wait to finally finish college and start working towards my career.

7. I love visiting galleries // Yes I'm one of those people. I have a real appreciation for art and love dragging people to exhibitions with me, as a creative person visiting galleries really helps inspire me.

8. I love the outdoors // I must get this from my parents because they always used to take me and my sister out into Derbyshire when we were younger for walks. Nowadays I love cycling and bringing my camera with me. I do get stressed a lot so being outdoors just helps in so many ways. Little bonus fact for you my ideal date would be a long walk somewhere pretty accompanied by a little picnic, I'm simple I know.

9. I have a fear of dogs // I've actually talked about my fear on the blog before so if you want to read more about it click here!

10. I love to watch comedies // My Dad raised me and my sister on comedies such as Blackadder, Dad's Army and Father Ted, so I love a good comedy. My current favourites are The Office (US version sorry), Gavin and Stacey and Modern Family, and I always have one playing on my laptop when I go to sleep at night.

4 Base Products // Mini Reviews

I don't know what's come over me in the past few months but I've been trying a lot of new products. I think I just got to the point with my skin that I needed to switch things up a bit. But hey ho with all these new things to share on the blog I thought it would be fun to do some mini reviews of four products I've been trying our recently.

First up is the 123 Perfect foundation by Bourjois which I had pretty high hopes for, I was sure Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup had raved about this stuff so I picked it up. And to be honest I was really dissapointed, I've completely abandoned this product after buying my Laura Mercier foundation cause it honestly doesn't compare. My main critisms are that the coverage isn't at all good enough for my skin and it doesn't last long enough which is a pain when you're at college 9 till 5. So big thumbs down for this product from me.

Next we have the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer which I've heard great things about and long story short this is a decent product for what you pay. I'm not sure if I prefer it to the lasting perfection concealer but it does cover blemishes well and lasts without drying out my skin or clinging to dry patches. So yes I'm fairly happy with this although I don't know if I'd repurchase it over alternatives.

Time for the only high end product here which is the Benefit Hello Flawless powder which I bought after reading rave after rave about this product. But personally I found this product really disappointing for the price. It looks fairly cakey on me and the coverage isn't that good, it also doesn't control shine that well and you don't get that much product in the pan. So yes pretty peeved I spent £25 pounds on this as I'm preferring my Rimmel powder over this at the moment, which was a fraction of the price. So no I don't particularly recommend this (takes deep breath and sips some tea).

Finally we have the Body Shop's Instablur primer that I'm just going to say now doesn't really deserve the hype it's been getting in my opinion. I got this because Gabby/VelvetGh0st recommended it and she really did sing her praises for this. It hasn't made that much of a difference to the longevity of my makeup and I just find it too thick and also my makeup doesn't apply as smooth over the top. However I like to put this on if I'm exercising and won't be wearing makeup because it does control shine well.

Have you tried any of these products? Have any products really dissapointed you recently?

So much negativity in this post! I promise to share some products I'm loving soon x

Hello again. I have my last Cornwall photographs to share with you today. When me, my sister and my Dad popped down a few weeks ago we stayed at this beautiful little place called Coverack. We weren't quite sure what it would be like as we popped down mainly so I couldn't visit a University down there. But we were pleasantly surprised by our accommodation which had a view of the most beautiful beach which we spent the afternoon on. I hope you like my photographs, the quality should get much better from now on as I've just bought Photoshop, about time I know.
