My December + A Thank You

@emmiheartsblog

Looking back at some of my Instagram posts this morning made me realise how great a month December has been. Christmas has of course been great and so has the build up, but my birthday was also on the 4th, I went out to Chatsworth for the day and I've been loving my current photography project. I'm going a bit soft on you all but in general I've just had a really lovely month.

I also want to take the opportunity to wish you all a belated Merry Christmas! I hope you all had a great day with you're loved ones and ate plenty. I've been ill over the past few days which was so frustrating yesterday as I had no appetite at all, I barely made it through my Christmas dinner. But I am feeling much better today which means I'm starting on all the choccies!

I'll be returning to blogging in the new year, I just want to say thanks so much for reading and supporting my efforts here over the past year. It means so much that there are people who read and comment on what I do here and I can't wait to create better content in the new year!

Christmas Day Makeup

Christmas day is only a few days away now so I thought it would be nice to share what makeup products I will be wearing on Thursday. Now I know some people prefer to chill out on Christmas day and I do spend the morning in my pyjamas, however I do enjoy doing my makeup and putting on a nice dress for the Christmas day celebrations, so here is what I have in mind this year.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation | £34.00
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer | £5.49
Rimmer Stay Matte Powder | £3.99

For my base I'm just going to be using the products I've been using everyday at the moment, however the Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation can be built up to be more full coverage without looking cakey, so admittedly I will probably be going for the slightly less natural approach as I usually only apply a pea sized amount of this product.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette | £37.00
Bourjois Eye Liner Effect Mascara | £9.99
Revlon Brow Fantasy | £6.99
Soap and Glory It's About Prime | £8.00

For eye makeup I'm still a bit torn as whether to go down the coppery or smokey eye route but I'll most likely be using my Naked 2 palette which is my personal favourite. And because I am useless at doing eyeliner I'll be using my eyeliner effect mascara which I love, and I'll be lining my eyes with black eyeshadow to create a more subtle eyeliner effect.

Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette | £22.00

On the cheeks I'll most likely be using this cheek palette from Urban Decay which gives a lovely, more subtle looking glowy look, perfect to go with my more heavy eye makeup.

Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick in Mauve It Over | £7.49
Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Clear Lipgloss | £9.00

Last year I decided to wear red lipstick on Christmas day and I honestly completely regretted that decision. It was just so much effort to maintain with all the food and drink. So this year I have learnt my lesson and will be donning a nude glossy lip. I always go for this pair when I go out for meals so will definitely be wearing them both on Christmas day.

Do you know what makeup you'll be wearing Christmas day?

A Red Pair

Today I am sharing a very seasonal red pair that I've been loving this month. As soon as December rolls around I get right in the festive mood and fully embrace the colour red. I'm usually more of a darker red person but for the past two weeks I've been loving these matching red shades.

I always seem to rave about these lippies but Hot Pepper from the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick range might just be my favourite lipstick ever. I'm just obsessed with this matte bright lipstick and they stay put on the lips so well. If you'd like to read a more in depth review about this product click here

To match my lipstick of choice I've been wearing one of my favourite Essie Polishes which is their bright red Lacquered Up. To be honest this isn't the most long lasting of shades but it is super easy to apply and looks so nice on the nails.

So that's my red pairing for the season! Do you have any products you like to match up?

Feeling Festive At Chatsworth

If you follow me on Instagram you may remember that I went to Chatsworth two weeks ago to visit the house and walk around the gardens. They always go crazy with the Christmas decorations in there and this year's theme is Alice in Wonderland, honestly they have really gone all out but I would have preferred them to go down the original Disney film route, as a lot of the specific characters displayed in the house were a bit creepy I'm not gonna lie. But anyway despite the freezing cold I did have a lovely day and the gardens are so beautiful. If you've never been it does make for a great day out and if you like films like Pride and Prejudice it may excite you to know that it was filmed there along with a few other films. So as per usual I thought I would share some of my favourite photos that I took on the day, They're not the best photos I've ever taken but I had a really nice day so I wanted to document it here.

December Beauty Haul

It's been ages since I've done a little haul here on the blog, which is mainly because I've been using all my money for christmas presents at the moment. However it was my birthday last Thursday so I decided to get a few essentials, and of course I thought it would be nice to share what I bought with you all accompanied by my first impressions of each product, so let's get started!

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water | £4.99

First up I got a product that I have wanted to try for ages. I've been using the L'Oreal Micellar water for a while now, but my skin has terrible recently which has meant I've resorted to blaming every product I use for my breakouts. I've heard loads of good things about this Bioderma dupe from Garnier so I decided to finally get it. So far I do actually prefer this product to the L'Oreal version, there might not actually be a lot of difference between the two products but I'm sure this does a much better job of removing waterproof mascara and I love how there is so much product in this bottle as I hate having to buy makeup remover all the time.

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturiser | £23.00

Ah GinZing we meet again and I'm so glad. I tried a little sample pot of this stuff ages ago and really liked it, but the price had been putting me off until now. It was on offer in Boots so I grabbed a pot of this moisturiser which so far I'm loving. I've been using a Body Shop moisturiser that has just done nothing for my skin this winter but as soon as I put this on for the first time, my skin genuinely felt so nourished and hydrated. This might be the result of using such a horrible product for so long, but this stuff really is lovely and smells amazing it has to be said.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation | £30.60

My next purchase was really my birthday treat to myself. I've been looking for a really good foundation for ages now and after reading a lot of reviews I decided to try this product from Laura Mercier. The thing that really drew me to this product was the coverage which is medium to high which for my teen, blemish ridden skin is a must. I get on with quite a few drugstore foundations but one thing that always lacks for me is getting decent coverage that doesn't look caked on. I've only been using this foundation for a week but I have to say it's really ticked all the boxes for me. It gives me great coverage without looking like I have a tonne of product on and is so easy to blend. The finish is luminous but doesn't look super shiny on my more oily skin, it really gives more of a subtle radiance. I don't want to go on about this product too much until I've used it for a while, but so far I'm really pleased with it.

Aussie Miracle Dry Hair Shampoo Aussome Volume | £4.99

Another very simple but slightly adventurous purchase for me is this volumising dry hair shampoo from Aussie. I've become very much dependent on dry hair shampoo recently as I'd rather snuggle up of my couch then blow dry my hair, however the Bastiste product I've been using isn't really doing it for me anymore and it's just making my hair feel thin and matte more than anything else. I was looking at other dry hair shampoos to try in Boots the other day and this product caught my eye, this stuff apparently gives great volume which I'm really hoping is true. I've been powering through with coursework a lot at the moment so my hair has been in a high pony constantly, but if you want to know my thoughts on this product once I've had a had a really chance to use it and any others I've mentioned in this post do let me know below.

Rimmel Stay Matte Press Powder | £3.99

In need of a new powder I decided to go for an old favourite of mine in the form of Rimmel's Stay Matte powder. I bought the transparent version of this product which I'm hoping won't get knocked off anything and smash as I've done that to two of these powders already. However despite the packaging flaw this stuff is really great value for money and does a great job of keeping my skin oil free.

Lush Herbalism Face & Body Cleanser | £6.75

And finally I bought myself a face cleanser that I haven't used for years, which is mainly because the scent really put me off in my early teens when Neutrogena's Pink Grapefruit facewash was my go to product. But with my skin dilemma at the moment which is probably just stressed related I decided to reach for this stuff again and hopefully it will make some kind of a difference. And even if it doesn't I still have a fun green face product at my disposal.

Thanks for reading, have you tried any of these products?
