Lush Autumn/Winter 2014

There are a lot of exciting beauty releases at this time of year, but my favourite of all has to be Lush's seasonal offerings. I would have liked to have hauled a bunch of Christmas bath bombs like I usually would and show you them but my parents have just had the bathroom redone and we now just have a shower, which means no more pamper sessions for me until I get my own house. I did however go into Lush with my friend today, and because I had my camera out to do some street photography one of the lovely people in Lush asked if I'd like to photograph some bath bombs and of course I said yes! She also showed me and my friend around the amazing A/W products so I thought I would share some snaps with you as there are some real gems this year, as well as plenty of old favourites!

New Shoes

Asda Block Heel Boots | £20.00

I finally binned my hole and rip covered pairs of Converse yesterday and bought myself some new shoes. I think my family breathed a sigh of relief as I've been wearing them everyday for so long now and they're falling apart. I decided to be practical for once and get some boots that are waterproof. I am honestly the most fussy person when it comes to buying shoes, and after going around Next and Topshop. I came across these boots which are fortunately a lot cheaper than the other ones I'd seen and I already love them. I don't normally talk about style because I don't consider myself to have any but I think these are a great addition to an A/W outfit and are perfect for the wetter weather.

What are your current everyday shoes?

An Autumn Walk

Once again I have gone up to my Nan's for a few days. This time it is so much different because my Grandad passed away a few weeks ago, I've come up to cheer my nan up though and it's a shame because she's got a really bad chest infection and hasn't been able to go out. My photography coursework at the moment revolves around street photography, so I went out today around the cobbled backstreets where my Nan lives to snap away. It is safe to say street photography doesn't particularly fascinate me, and I really don't like the idea of sticking my camera in people's faces. However I came across some other things on my particularly autumnal walk, so I thought I'd share some of my snaps with you, as per.

Pssst tomorrow I'll be showing you my new shoes!

Makeup Routine Staples

Revlon Colourstay Foundation for Oily/Combination Skin | £12.49

Revlon Colourstay Concealer | £6.99

Real Techniques Stippling Brush | £11.99

Revlon Brow Fantasy | £6.99

Nuxe Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm | £9.50

It's fair to say that I've not had the most relaxed month or so. With college commitments, I feel like I'm making less effort with beauty and makeup as the time passes. However I do still have my skin concerns and for me personally, leaving the house and putting my makeup on branch together and I do need coverage for my blemish ridden skin. Of course this means I have some essentials that make my makeup routine quicker and definitely more effective from my point of view. So today I thought I would share some makeup routine staples that really save my bacon when rushing out the door.

First off I have my perfect pair that handle the coverage side of things. The Revlon Colourstay line is a firm favourite of mine, in particular the combination/oily foundation which with a number of repurchases has got me through my very lengthy college career so far, and remains my personal favourite drugstore foundation. The coverage is decent, but not cakey, it also lasts well and keeps shine at bay. The concealer is also lovely and the formula is great. It's actually replaced my obsession with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, which I didn't think was possible at one time.

Next up is my trusty stippling brush from Real Techniques which is just a really affordable, but good quality brush. I would probably like the blending brush too if I owned it and would love to add it to my collection, but this brush is amazing for getting rid of excess foundation and blending everything out to create a smooth canvas, all I do is apply my foundation with my Expert Face Brush and use this baby to sort out the mess.

Next is a new favourite of mine but basically any eyebrow gel is amazing is my book. I am terrible at shaping my brows, eyeliner and anything else in beauty that requires precision so having a product I can brush on is a real lifesaver. I never used to get why people bother doing their brows, but since getting my first brow gel last year I legit cannot leave the house without one on, it makes that much of a difference in my opinion.

Finally I have a cult product that I finally caved and purchased about a month ago. Yes I finally laid my paws on the Nuxe Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm over a month ago, and may I just say, *stands up to podium*, that it is amazing and completely worth the hype in my opinion. Do you remember back in the day where I used to constantly moan about my Sahara-esk lips at any opportunity? Well no more, my lips have not been chapped once since I started using this, and I'm now wearing lippies whenever the hell I feel like it.

The Quintessential Autumn Red

Today I am talking about a product that I'm certain needs no introduction at this time of year. It has to be said that when I think of autumn and beauty this product quickly comes to mind, yes the Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 107 is an autumnal makeup staple in its own right and I've been wearing it non stop at the moment. It's pretty obvious what I think of this product but I thought why not dedicate a post to this lippy as I'm wearing it so much at the moment.

Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 107 | £5.49

107 is a matte, dark berry red shade that lasts so well on the lips and doesn't feel drying or uncomfortable, especially if you wear a lip balm underneath. It is the perfect shade for this time of year and such good quality for the price. This is definitely a bold shade, and sometimes I just don't feel like wearing something so daring, so I've also been dabbing a little of this on top of lip balm to create a nice tint. In my opinion this is such a classic shade and a lovely investment for this time of year.

Because of the flash the lipstick does look a little lighter than it actually is
Do you have this lipstick in your collection? What other lipsticks are you loving this autumn?

A Quick Stop + Coping With Loss | A Little Chat

It's been a strange few days for me, on Thursday my family drove up to Lancashire for my Grandad's funeral the day after. If you've been reading my blog for a while you'll know that I go to my grandparent's a lot, I was close to my Grandad and it didn't seem real being told he'd passed away, and it didn't hit me properly until the morning of the funeral. Unfortunately this wasn't the first time I've coped with loss, as my friend Robyn died over two years ago. We all deal with it differently and it can be hard to talk to people about it because they're being affected by it too. With my Grandad passing I didn't really talk about it properly until the day of the funeral, because I don't live that close to them it wasn't like it was confronted with me, but at the same time I felt awful and couldn't really concentrate at college. But at the funeral when you actually hear people say their name, and remind you of all the good times, that's when it really hit me and I was crying so much because I really loved my Grandad and it seems just so wrong that he''s not around anymore.

Obviously I am not qualified to talk about coping with loss, but I do have experience like most people and I just wanted to share some things that I think about the subject:

Autumn Nail Lookbook

You may have noticed that since the beginning of Autumn I have been resisting sharing NOTD posts with you all. As you can probably tell it is because I've been planning this little look book for ages to share all the polishes I'm wearing this autumn with you. I know it may seem a little late for some autumnal nail inspiration, but I wanted to take my photos as I actually wear the products, and I do think these polishes are perfectly suitable for the winter season too so hopefully you can forgive me. So let's get into what nail polishes I'm loving this autumn...

The One With The Black Lipstick

So the other week I bought a product I never thought I'd go near, however I've been invited to a Halloween party at the end of the month so I decided to try out a black lipstick just to see how it would look on me. The thing about black lipstick is that it's such a scary shade, and it can look so unflattering. But owning even a super cheap black lippy can be really useful, especially at this time of year and this is why.

I thought about putting the lipstick on and photographing myself, but I thought just this once I'll spare you of that image cos' it ain't a nice one x
Barry M Lip Paint in Black | £4.49

One of my favourite things about autumn is getting out all my dark lippies, I don't own loads but I love a dark lip and having a black lipstick is so useful because it will make any lipstick darker! Yes that means your favourite pink lippy can be made more vampy for the halloween season, and it's as simple as using your hand as a palette. I've only had this Barry M lipstick for a few weeks and I'm already loving experimenting with it!

So that is my piece of wisdom for the day, do you have any cool makeup tricks?

Adding Some Purple

When it comes to experimenting with makeup autumn is my favourite time of year. There are just so many shades you can experiment with, all of which are some of my favourites. Anything red, copper and purple is just right up my street. So for my first autumnal makeup post I wanted to share with you how I'm incorporating some purple into my everyday makeup. Purple is definitely a more intimidating shade to work with, but I've been wearing this look to college over the past few days and I've been loving it.

To add purple into my everyday makeup I've been using these two inexpensive products. The first adds a subtle bit of dark purple to my lids and comes in the form of one of my favourite eyeshadow formulas. The Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate is a buildable dark purple shade which does contain a few specks of shimmer but trust me when I say it's everyday appropriate. As a one wash shade it is just so easy to swish on with your finger and isn't too pigmented that it's daunting to wear, and it lasts all day long and doesn't crease!

For lips I picked an old favourite of mine which is this Revlon Colourburst Balm Stain in Crush. I love the formula of these as they are slightly balmy and last really well on the lips. I love this purple shade in particular again because it is buildable which I think is good for shades like this. If I don't want too dramatic a look I put lip balm on and dab a little of this into it for a more sheer colour. But for the look I've done here I've just put it straight onto the lips and not built it up too much.

Do you have any favourite purple products?

Sick Days

I have been so ill over the past week and I still am I'm afraid. I've been trying to be productive on my sick days but I'm sure you'll know how difficult that is when you're feeling rough. It's a lot easier to take pictures rather than sit and type an essay (I only managed to get 1 of my 4 essays done!) so I decided to take some pictures on one of my days off College to show you all what I do when I'm off ill and also to offer some advice on making yourself feel better when feeling ill at this time of year. So yes another one of my super random posts but I really have had the worst cold (which apparently my Dad brought back from Crete with him, cheers Dad) but hopefully this post has a little substance to it.

September Favourites | Beauty

September for me beauty wise has been a little uneventful, I've been so busy at college that I've been really minimal with makeup and pampering so I only have a few beauty favourites this month. But nonetheless I still wanted to share the few little things that have been keeping me happy last month in the beauty department!
