My Month #2 February

February has been quite the month for my little blog. I've reached 200 followers through GFC and Bloglovin, had a lot more interaction with you all and have really started to mould the content I am producing to my personal tastes more. Obviously I want to make my readers happy and produce posts you'll enjoy reading, however being able to put passion into my content by being myself with it is also a big deal in keeping up EmmiHearts and enjoying creating content for you all. So what have I been up to this month? Well...

Pink Graffiti Effect Nails of the Day

Products Mentioned: Nails Inc New Compton Street (no longer sold), SEVENTEEN Off the Wall Nail Polish in Monochrome

Today's nail of the day post witnesses my first attempt at more spring like nail polish. I'm not the biggest fan of pink polish so decided to wear my favourite pink nail varnish by Nails Inc which sadly they don't sell anymore and paired it with my favourite nail effect polish by SEVENTEEN.

I've never been a fan of the Nail's Inc formulations as I find them quite streaky and they chip so quickly however sealed over with this effect polish and my trusty Seche Vite it does last a good few days. I'm looking forward to embracing my pastel polishes this spring but this cool pink is a great transitional shade.

Comment below what spring polishes you're looking forward to wearing this spring x

Back to the Botanical Gardens

Last Monday I decided to take my camera out for the first time in ages and visit one of my favourite places in Sheffield, the botanical gardens here make for a peaceful day out away from the noise and busy surroundings of the city, not to mention having plenty of pretty things to take photos of. So for what seems the first photography post in ages I thought I would share some of my favourite pictures that I took that day!

I've Joined My Local Gym! Diet Update

Yes after weeks of trying to keep fit at home I finally caved yesterday and joined my local Pure Gym. My Mum has started going as well recently so I've finally got some motivation to exercise more. I'd been doing workouts on my Xbox Kinect with Your Shape Fitness Evolve and as better as I'd been feeling because of it there is only so much I can do with it in terms of variation and how much it benefits me.

One other benefit of joining the gym is that I've finally weighed myself so now I can start setting realistic goals for losing weight. As of yesterday I am 9st 12pounds which I already knew is way too heavy for my short height, however it did motivate me as back in December I weighed 10 and a half stone so I've started losing weight in the past 4 weeks!

For the past few weeks I've eaten nothing but healthy food and I can't believe I've managed to resist temptation for so long. I don't crave sugary foods like I used to and feel so much better for it. Now that I am going to start going to the gym regularly I am hoping that I will start seeing some results in the future in terms of how my body looks. I am definitely going to keep going with this in the hope that by the summer time I will feel confident enough to start sharing outfit posts with you all which I'd absolutely love to do.

I really think keeping you all posted on my weight loss progress is going to motivate me so much in achieving my goals, I hope you all don't mind it. To make the content more readable I'm going to be posting my weekly update along with a diet related post which is going to be a post collaboration series with Fiona. We've decided that starting at the beginning of March we are going to post weekly diet and fitness posts to help motivate those with weight loss resolutions as well. I am really excited to do this collaboration and we are going to be focusing on getting in shape for summer!

Thanks so much for reading, I'm in such a good place with my progress at the moment despite only having done this for four weeks, I just had to share it with you all. Be sure to let me know how you're getting on if you are trying to lose weight too x

Monthly Makeup Wishlist #2

Products Mentioned:
Sleek Brow Kit // Dior Rosey Glow Blush // Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick in Coral Cutie
Rimmel Stay Matte Primer // Bourjois Happy Light Foundation

Another month, another list of products I am currently swooning over. I've just started a spending ban so this is a particularly hard post for me to write due to my lack of control when it comes to money. However now that I've turned 18 I've decided I need to get a weekend job or one that fits around my college timetable. Since doing my paid internship with Lloyd's last summer I've missed the feeling of earning my own money to do what I want with. With that in mind here are the first things I'll be buying once I get a job.

I've only recently started doing my eyebrows and honestly the different they make is huge. I've been using my Maybelline Brow Drama for ages now and finally want to get the hang of shaping my brows. The much coveted Benefit Brow Zings is pretty pricey and I've read a bunch of reviews on this Sleek Brow Kit and everyone who has also used the Brow Zings says it is completely on par with it and so much cheaper I might add!

Since making a beauty resolution this year to experiment more with my makeup and style I've really been enjoying looking up trends in makeup and fashion. One big trend this spring is going to be orange lips and since reading some really impressed reviews with the Body Shop's Colour Crush Lipsticks recently I've been wanting to try their bright orange lipstick strangely named coral cutie.

Rimmel have made a lot of new releases to their makeup line recently including a lot of base products however the stay matte primer has only recently caught my eye. I love their fix and perfect primer so am definitely going to see how this goes with my oily skin.

One of my favourite beauty blogs to read has always been Vivianna Does Makeup. Anna has amazing taste and such a good writing style, one thing she has really raved about recently is the happy light foundation from Bourjois, I liked their Healthy Mix foundation however this one is supposed to be a lot more mattifying so I'm definitely willing to give this one a go.

I rarely allow myself to feel like I need a higher end product, mainly because of my budget. However I read a review of this Dior blush and my god I need it. It is one of those fancy ones that adapts specifically to you. I think it looks perfect for the spring and the reviews I've read have given nothing by positive feedback about this stuff.

So that's my makeup wishlist for February, comment below what you've got your eye on at the moment x

Revlon Colourstay Concealer Review

I've been using a lot of thicker concealers recently on my spots as I've really fallen out of love for the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer and they've all just been that bit too cakey for me. So I decided to try a different liquid concealer to one I have ever picked up in the form of Revlon's Colourstay concealer as I love the oily/combination foundation so much, so here are my thoughts.

This concealer is well pigmented and creamy making it so easy and quick to blend and cover spots. In order for this stuff to last well throughout the day I find it works best on top of my foundation, the finish is also mostly matte which also really helps get my t-zone shine free for longer. It isn't drying and doesn't cling to dry patches, and for only £6.99 I couldn't be any happier with this product.

Thanks so much for reading, I have to admit I'm pretty chuffed to have finally found a concealer that isn't super cakey. Comment below your favourite concealer x

Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Sultry

After weeks of this shade being sold out in my local Boots I finally managed to get my hands on the Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm that I've been eyeing up since the release of these lip crayons. I think it's the cool winter vibe that this brownish pink has that really made me need Sultry to be my first one of these products. So now I've finally got my hands on one and had the chance to test it for the past few days, here are my thoughts!

Arcade Cup Lipstick Storage Idea

Today's post is going to admittedly be a short one but I simply had to share this inexpensive storage solution that I have been using with you all. I think everyone and their Nan dreams about having Muji type storage solutions to display all their makeup, however I've been trying to be more frugal recently. Because of this I have been using this free cup that is for coins at the amusements/penny slots by the seaside to store my most worn lippys. Meaning that I can easily grab then first thing in the morning. This works for me because I can see what products are what and they are stored tightly not creating a tonne of space like a Muji storage solution would on my make do vanity.

Thanks so much for reading, comment below any unique storage ideas you have for makeup!

Emmi Talks: Deciding to Lose Weight

Today's Emmi Talks post is all about the decision I made three weeks ago to make some much needed changes to my lifestyle in order to lose weight. Ever since the age of around 14 I've slowly become heavier and heavier. My Dad doesn't like having weighing scales in the house and because of this I am not completely sure how much I weigh but it is definitely over ten stone. Much of this is due to my frankly endless appetite and that admittedly I am an emotional eater and when stressed will often seek comfort in one too many chocolate bars.

However something hit me three weeks ago. I've really gone down a slippery slope with my health over the last few months and am losing self confidence and feeling a serious lack of motivation because of it. So three weeks ago I decided enough was enough and I decided that I need to change my lifestyle completely as it is really damaging both my physical and mental health. So for my first diet/fitness related post I am going to share all the changes I have made and am planning to make in order to lose weight. As a teen I know it is really hard to make changes like this because of friends, school and family lifestyle etc but I really have found some methods that can work around this.

What's in my Makeup Bag #3

I was going through my post archive for some inspiration the other day and realised that I haven't shared what I keep in my makeup bag with your lovely selves since October! So today to put an end to what is clearly sacrilege I am sharing with you what I keep in my makeup bag, whether I'm out shopping or half asleep at college I always have these items stashed in my bag at all times for when touch ups are needed!

My Hunter Wellies

Today I thought I would share some serious shoe love I've been having this winter with my Hunter Wellies. They are the only shoes I seem to have been wearing recently and people have started to noticed, so I just had to talk about my beloved wellies as they really are one of the best fashion investments I have ever made!

I bought my wellies for £70 just over a year ago and they have lasted so well that getting them out this winter felt as if I had just bought them. I have never been a fashion victim but when I first saw people wearing these things last year I simply had to buy a pair.

When I say I have been wearing these things constantly I am not exaggerating. Since starting to wear these again it seems so much effort to have to put on my other shoes in the morning when I can just slide my feet into these and know that they won't get wet should the heavens open which has been happening a lot in the UK recently. I'm not going to lie my friends keep commenting that I look like a farmer in them, especially when I'm wearing my green winter coat but honestly I'm just so comfy in these things that I don't care.

Now that I've shared with you all what I've been wearing constantly what about you? Comment below x

Photo Collages Using Pic Monkey

It has been so long since I've shared some of my photography with you all, I'm really missing it but honestly the weather has been so bad in the UK over the past few weeks that I really haven't dared taking my camera out for the day. So feeling a serious lacking in the photography aspect of my blog I thought I would share some photo collages that I've been making on Pic Monkey, which if you have never heard of it is a free online photo editing application which I use to edit pictures for the majority of my blog posts (otherwise Adobe Photoshop) .

I've been reading a lot of lifestyle blogs recently and have really become envious of the gorgeous scrapbooks that some of the bloggers have produced, however printing pictures is pricey and I simply can't afford to make anything anywhere near as fancy as these arty gals so turned to making these collages. I really like them as the site really let's you be creative with your creations and add text where ever, fancy filters and all kinds of other effects. For my collages I have mixed my favourite pictures with some random personal snaps to really capture the memory of the day.

Emmi Talks: Being Single On Valentines Day

It doesn't matter does it. I'm not being the spiteful girl without a date for Valentines Day but in my opinion it is one of those nice ways to show how much you appreciate the loved ones in your life, other than that it is just a bit over hyped and an excuse for the shops to cash in on chocolates, flowers and what not which really aren't important.

Yes I am going to be alone on Valentines Day, but it doesn't mean I need to bash the celebration or be miserable. Honestly I have never been so content with my social life and being single is a part of it I am fine with at the moment, it's not the end of the world and let's face it, I've only just become an adult and why not enjoy what it means to be young for a little bit longer.

Soap and Glory's Cheekmate in Rosey Glow

I picked up this lip and cheek stain from Soap and Glory up in December looking for a cheaper alternative to my much loved Benetint which I had sadly used up. Being around a third of the price at £8.00 I was definitely willing to give this stuff a go, so here are my thoughts.

My Tips for Braiding Hair for a Wavy Hairstyle

When it comes to hair I have always been so boring with my hairstyles, I either have it straight, in a bun or I will plait it overnight. One of my mini beauty resolutions for the year is to experiment more with both my makeup and hairstyles however I have really got the knack of the old plait your hair overnight and wake up to effortless waves, so I thought I would share some of my tips to those who also prefer having an extra ten minutes in bed rather then styling their hair.

1. Decide How You Want Your Waves to Look

If you want more loose casual waves then make less and more loose plaits, if your would like more intricate waves make more and tighter plaits.

2. Damp Hair

To help your hair maintain the waves you've created make sure your hair is damp before starting, towel dried after shower hair works well for most people in terms of being able to dry thoroughly while in a plait, however for thicker haired girls like me I recommend spraying your hair with water to make it slightly damp just before plaiting.

3. Put Leave In Conditioner Onto Your Hair Before Plaiting

This will help keep frizz and bay and hold a curl, any styling spray will do to be honest.

4. Separate Your Layers

If your hair does not have any layers cut into it then this tip can fly above your head, however if you do have different lengths of hair make sure you plait them separately so that shorter hairs aren't missed. I usually do four plaits, two for each side as my hair is two different lengths, this way I don't have random hair coming out of my plaits that won't end up being wavy.

5. Don't Brush Your Hair

To avoid your hair getting frizzy, don't use a hair brush to brush your hair when you take your plaits out. Instead use your fingers to lightly separate your hair.

6. Hairspray

This is a no brainer for most but make sure you use hairspray to avoid your wave disappearing throughout the day.

Thanks for reading, comment below if you'd like so see more hair posts and any other tips you have for braiding your hair overnight x

Collection Cherry Pop Lipstick

I have been on the search for my perfect red lipstick all winter long so when I dug this baby out of my collection and dusted it off I was filled with hope that this would be the one. I used to wear this loads in secondary school where I had no makeup knowledge whatsoever so was intrigued to see what I would think about it now.

First up is the price, at £2.99 I can definitely see why I picked this stuff up when I wasn't so bothered about makeup because it is so inexpensive. I'm always willing to give cheap makeup a try but can often be left disappointed by the formulation. The real let down with this for me is that it is a messy product, it's one of those lipsticks that if you smudge it a tiny bit while applying it blows completely out of proportion, it also isn't very staining and transfers onto everything your lips touch. One plus I would give to the formulation is that it isn't drying however it doesn't really outweigh the staying power with this stuff.

In terms of colour this is where I have to support this product, it is the first non matte red lippy I've really taken to having on my lips as being super pale I find it really hard to find the right bright lippy, but I love the way this looks on me, I feel like it makes me look slightly tanned for some reason I have to admit.

So there you have it, honestly I'm really in the middle with this product but at the price I do think it is ok quality for your money, It definitely makes me want to try some other cheaper lipsticks. Thanks for reading, comment below your favourite red lipstick x

The Would You Rather Tag: Beauty Edition

It isn't often I'll get tagged and feel the instant urge to write my tag post immediately however I just read Sarah over at  My Beauty Sleuth's version of this tag which she kindly tagged me to do and loved reading the answers to some of the most random beauty related questions I have ever come across, so naturally I had to share my answers with you all and complete the tag myself.

Winter Sparkly Nails

Products Mentioned: Ciate Confetti, Essie Parka Perfect
I don't know about you but as a college student I still love it when it snows. I have a friend at college who always seems to know what the weather is going to be, so I'm constantly like "yo when is it going to snow man?" yes I obviously talk like that haha. It started snowing the other day and it did not settle which is genuinely the most annoying thing but it did inspire me to create this nail look which reminds me of the grey skies we've been having and the snow I so desperately want to settle.

I'm really not a glitter person but I think this Ciate glitter polish really goes well with the dull Parka Perfect so much so that I decided not to just leave the glitter to an accent nail.

Thanks for reading folks, comment below what your favourite winter nail polish has been this year!

Makeup of the Day #4 Winter Pink Lip

Realising that my last makeup of the day post was at Christmas I took the opportunity to take some pictures of the makeup I was wearing when I didn't have to be in college till the afternoon the other day. Like most days I've been keeping it very natural with my makeup for college as wearing heavy makeup is just a fuss to be honest. I've really been sticking to grey eyeshadow recently especially this matte light grey from my Sleek Au Naturel Palette which I've neglected for so long until the past few weeks.

I love spring makeup and can't wait for the season to come round not just for the warmer weather but I love a pink lip so have been pulling out this cool matte pink lipstick from Revlon which is one of my favourite lighter coloured lip sticks. Overall I've definitely been keeping natural with my makeup in terms of colours and coverage, my skin has been a lot clearer in recent weeks since my post Christmas break out so I've been indulging in using a lower coverage foundation and just using concealer on my under eyes. Below are all the products I've used!

Products Used: Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation, SEVENTEEN Phwoarr Paint, Soap and Glory's One Heck of a Blott, Sleek Blush in Flushed, Maybelline Brow Drama, Sleek Au Natural Eyeshadow Palette (Nubuck Used),  Revlon Grow Lucious Mascara, Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Stick in Pink Pout

Thanks for reading, comment below how you've been doing your everyday makeup this winter x

200 Followers: A Big Thank You!

Eek, yes I have hit 100 followers on both my Bloglovin and GFC! I'm feeling pretty chuffed about it I can tell you. I haven't even been blogging for a year so it is so nice to know so many of you read my blog from back in July where I had no idea if anyone was even seeing my posts let alone reading them. I'm not gonna get all smug about it but I do just want to say a big thank you to all of you who are supporting my efforts here, It really makes my day when I read your comments and being able to connect and share my passions through blogging is something I don't plan on abandoning any time soon. So yeah thanks for making this hobby of mine so rewarding, virtual hug time!

January Beauty Favourites

It's really cliche to say but it genuinely feels like we were celebrating the New Year a few days ago. This month has flown by but there have been some products I've been using non stop. Instead of rambling like I easily could about these products I've summarised why I love them in pictures so be sure to let me know if you like this style of favourites post. So here are my beauty favourites for the month of January!
