My Month #1 January

My Current Makeup Routine in Photos // Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish Review // How I Style Topshop Socks
My Moisturising Lip Colour Picks // My Real Techniques Brush Collection // Topshop Glow
Picking the Perfect Red Lipstick // Two Most Used Winter Blushes // What I got in my Ciate Nail Calender

I am currently writing this post from my kitchen table, I got back from college about an hour ago and checked my I-Pad after an exhausting push with my coursework only to be presented with the fact that I now have 100 followers on GFC which has really made my day I can tell you. I am also about to hit the 100 mark on Bloglovin as well so I'll be writing a special thank you post when that happens. But for now I really just want to say thank you for following and supporting my efforts here on EmmiHearts, reading your comments makes my day and I'm so glad I've kept up with this blog as even though it is tiny compared to so many I have found it so rewarding to post here and reply to your lovely comments. Thanks so much folks you've made my day by a mile x
So as the title suggests this post is all about my month. Last year at the end of every month I would round up my favourite posts to write for you all and as much as I liked doing that I definitely feel like I've been missing an opportunity to give you guys an update on what I've been up to every month. So feeling a little disconnected from you all I present a new name and a new type of monthly summary post. Like above I'll link my favourite posts and also give you guys an update on how my month has been! Simples.

My Favourite Drugstore Concealers

Products Mentioned: Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, SEVENTEEN Phwoarr Paint, Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer

As a girl who has suffered with acne all through her teen years I have gone through my fair share of concealers. So to put it one way I know where the goods are in drugstore concealers so I thought I would share my most used ones with you all and why I love them so much.

First up is the highly coveted Collection Lasting Perfection concealer which everyone and their nan seems to rave about and I of course will be doing the same. It is a really versatile liquid concealer with a really good pigmentation and staying power. I have gone through so many of these in my teens and when in doubt usually grab this, the only negative of this is that it can get pretty cakey however if I am using this stuff I tend to go for a lower coverage foundation or tinted moisturiser anyway so never have any complaints myself about that aspect of the product.

Next up is a newbie on the market which has been compared to Benefit, Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown concealers. SEVENTEEN's Phwoarr Paint really owns it for me it terms of pigmentation and is really long lasting. The thickness of the formula makes it great for staying onto under eyes and correcting redness. Despite this being an under eye concealer I use this on my spots and it does a great job at covering them up.

My last pick is the most moisturising of the three in the form of the Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer. I have been using this so much recently as the cold weather has really made my skin dry and because it is oily as well this product has been perfect as it has a matte finish despite not being drying at all. I have to say I have been preferring this to the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer as it has a yellow undertone which works a lot better with correcting redness and is not cakey at all.

So there are my picks, what are yours? Comment below x

The Repurchase #1

Today I am sharing a recent repurchase with you all in the form of Revlon's Nearly Naked Foundation which retails for £8.99. This came about due to the fact that my skin has been so dry and dull recently and my Colourstay Foundation for Oily/Combination skin is just too matte which is something I never thought I would say. So here is why I love this foundation enough to repurchase it.

This foundation is very lightweight however despite this it has a higher medium coverage then you would expect. I never find this foundation cakey and it is so easy to blend. Many people have said this is a great dupe for the YSL Touche Eclat foundation which is highly coveted by beauty lovers.

The lasting power on this product is very good and I can go most of the day being confident that this stuff won't budge. It isn't a matte foundation so oily skinned girls like me will need their powder at hand however this foundation doesn't get too shiny throughout the day unlike some broad spectrum foundations.

The packaging with this product has always been a main point of criticism I've come to gather from other bloggers. It all centres around the fact that there is no pump with this foundation so forgetting to put the cap back on and knocking this over is a real pain I can tell you, however I do like the nifty glass packaging that this product has.

So there you have it, despite this being a strange foundation for this time of year because of the slightly less full coverage I do love this stuff and it has been making my recently dull skin look a hell of a lot more radiant.

Thanks for reading folks, comment below the foundation you have been loving most recently x

My Real Techniques Brush Collection

It's no secret that I have a serious love for the drugstore gems that are Real Techniques Brushes, I use them every single day in my makeup routine and rarely use any other brand for applying my makeup with. So today I thought I would share the Real Techniques Brushes that I own with you all and why I love them so much.

Products mentioned: RT Stippling Brush, RT Powder Brush, RT Blush Brush, RT Expert Face Brush
Thanks so much for reading, comment below if you own any Real Techniques brushes and if so what your most used brush is x

Have a great day!

Monthly Makeup Wish List #1

Products from left to right: Benefit the Pore-fessional Agent Zero Shine Powder, SEVENTEEN On the Spot Concealer, Maybelline Falsies Big Eye Mascara, Dior Creme De Rose Lip Balm, Revlon Mauve It Over Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick, Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Sultry

Since the start of the year I've been on a little spending ban mainly due to the fact that Christmas wiped the majority of my bank balance. But a girl can still window shop so I've put together a list of the products I've had my eye on this month.

I've read so many reviews on the Benefit Porefessional Powder and despite a few mixed reviews I still really want to give this stuff a whirl, I love the idea of the packaging as I have always been put off by loose powders but this just makes sense especially for travelling so I can't wait to give this product a go.

Next up is the On the Spot Concealer from SEVENTEEN which I have had my eye on since seeing Kate from Ghostparties use it in a tutorial. Another product I want because of a tutorial is the Maybelline Falsies Big Eye Mascara which I have seen being used all over my subscription box recently, I love the idea of having two wands as I always seem to smudge product on my under eyes when using regular mascara wands so can't wait to give this a go.

Moving onto lips and since the cold weather has kicked in I have seen the much coveted Dior Rose lip balm on so many of the beauty blogs I read, it isn't cheap at all but I have never owned a pricier higher quality lip balm so this seems a great one to treat myself to as I love rose scents. Of course with this month's most anticipated makeup launch hitting the stores I had to pick the shade from the new Revlon Lip line I have been swooning most for in the form of Sultry, which I have been trying to pick up for the last week but it has been the only shade in my local Boots to be sold out, just my luck. And finally is a nude lipstick I have wanted since seeing Tanya Burr use it in one of her old makeup tutorials. It was a Lana Del Rey look and as a lover of Lana I knew that Revlon's Mauve it Over would have to be mine.

Thanks so much for reading, comment below what makeup you have on your wish list at the moment x

Have a great day!

A Random Favourite #1 Mean Girls

One thing I constantly say I struggle with on EmmiHearts is being more personal with you all in my posts. As much as I love beauty and photography one of the things I love about reading blogs is that you can really get to know that person and connect with them as if you are sitting down for a coffee and a chat with them. So I got my notebook out and really started to have a think about how I can overcome this dilemma of mine and I think I have the solution. A series of posts where I take time out to talk about something I really love, whether it be somewhere I have visited, a new band I have discovered or simply talking about a favourite movie of mine like today.

How I Style - Topshop Socks

EmmiHearts has never been any kind of fashion blog, however recently I've been obsessed with Topshop's growing collection of statement socks, so I thought I'd share with you all how I've been wearing them. As a lover of shoes I thought this would be a really fun post to put together and share with you all so I hope you enjoy and can bare with the slightly random content that is admittedly today's post.

Beauty uses for Olive Oil

I've always loved reading about DIY face masks and home made body lotions etc but usually the ingredients lists are filled with random foods that I would never normally purchase so the idea of buying foods for the sake of a home made beauty product seemed kind of pointless. Olive oil is one product we are all likely to have in our kitchens without needing to go out and buy it simply for some natural beauty fixes, so today I am sharing some of my beauty uses for olive oil!

Makeup Remover - Simply put olive oil onto a cotton pad or a q tip and remove to remove any makeup, then rinse your face with warm water and your makeup has been gently removed, the oil also won't leave skin feeling dry like some removers.

Eye Care - Apply to your under eyes to brighten and moisturise them, also apply to lashes to improve their strength and make them grow quicker and thicker.

Bath Oil - Add around five table spoons of olive oil to your bath and you will come out with baby soft skin.

Stronger Nails - Heat up some olive oil till it is warm making sure it is cool enough to touch and soak your nails in it for five to ten minutes for stronger nails.

Moisturising Face Mask - Simply mix honey and olive oil and leave for ten minutes on the face and then rinse with warm water for moisturised skin

Hair Mask - For more shiny soft hair, mix 2 table spoons of olive oil with one egg yolk and 5 drops of lemon  juice and leave for ten to fifteen minutes and then rinse with warm water.

Home Made Body Scrub - Whenever I run out of body scrub I simply mix olive oil and sugar together, depending on the sugar crystals you can get a super exfoliating scrub out of this which is obviously really natural and beneficial for the skin.

So there you have it six reasons to savour this multipurpose cooking ingredient. Thanks so much for reading and be sure to comment any additional uses you have for olive oil, I'd love to hear them!

Have a great day x

My Moisturising Lip Colour picks

The winter weather is really taking it's toll here in the UK not just on the temperature but I'm sure we can all agree our skin gets that little harder to manage in the wintertime, or in my case a lot harder. One area in particular that really feels the effects are my lips which are normally dry as it is so the cold weather makes things even worse, that is where some more moisturising lip products are in order. So for today's post I thought I would share with you all the products I have been turning to give my lips a little something in colour while not drying them out.

Lip glosses aren't known for being drying in any way however some are more moisturising than others and this baby is definitely one of them. The Bourjois Effet 3D lip gloss is not the most pigmented product but really does have a balm effect while being super glossy.

Next up is a product that I simply could not do a moisturising lip picks line up without. The Revlon Lip Butters are up there with some of the most coveted lip sticks because they offer really good pigmentation while being super balmy and non drying on the lips.

The newly reformulated moisture renew lipsticks by Rimmel really do offer great value for money in terms of their pigmentation and non drying formulas. Personally I prefer the finish of these to the Revlon Lip Butters as you need less product on the lips to get a more opaque finish.

Now on to lip balms and first up are the moisture plus lip balms from Carmex which I hands down prefer over the Baby Lips balms as the pigmentation is just that much better and they are much more moisturising.

I have been wearing this born lippy lip balm from the Body Shop constantly at the moment as my lips are at their worst, it gives the nicest berry tint to the lips while hydrating them.

So there you have it, 5 product ranges all suitable for the dry lip season as I'm beginning to call it. Thanks for reading, comment below your current favourite moisturising lip product!

Celebrity Makeup Musings

I've been talking about trends a lot recently, however today I thought I would make a post more about my personal tastes when it comes to beauty. Specifically who really influences my style and makeup looks. I guess they are very mainstream however I do genuinely take inspiration from these people often in my makeup looks.

First up I'll start with the woman who brought me one of my favourite TV characters ever. Yes Miss Rachel Berry herself Lea Michele. This woman inspires me in general to really go for my dreams and pursue everything I do working hard and being a grateful person as I do it. She also has impeccable taste when it comes to her makeup and styling choices, which yes I know are often thought up by a team of artists and stylists however I definitely love the elegant girly dresses she pulls off and her her glowing more natural makeup choices.

Next up is a lady I just could not miss out who has really made her mark on the fashion and beauty world, yes big brows herself Cara Delevingne. It definitely bugs me how this girl can look as crazy as she wants and still look so beautiful, however I love her everyday grungy makeup that you can often see her wearing, keeping very minimal on all but her eyes and of course those brows.

Ah Lana Del Rey, I cannot even begin to describe my love for this woman. I could listen to her music all day long. Her makeup style in particular has changed up slightly from her ginger haired red lip days however she has always kept a very retro makeup style which I of course love taking inspiration from.

Foxes may seem a less obvious choice and while I don't really appreciate her music as much, I saw her on Never Mind the Buzzcocks a few months back and just could not take my eyes off her flawless eyeliner. Of course being useless with eyeliner myself makes this love of her makeup style pretty pointless, however I still envy every eyeliner look I see her rock, she definitely makes me want to pursue trying not to mess up my eyeliner when I put it on.

Finally is my music guilty pleasure. I think we can all agree if one lady can rock a red lip any day of the week it is Taylor Swift. I just love her style in general and constantly envy the looks she pulls up in on the red carpet.

So there you have it all the fabulous ladies who inspire me through the media in my makeup musings, I thought this post would be a nice more personal makeup post to write up for you all so I hope you enjoyed it, be sure to comment which celebrities inspire you with their beauty choices x

Lily Flame Snow Fall Candle

It's not often I will dedicate an entire post to something like a candle on EmmiHearts however I have been burning this baby non stop this month so it only feels right that I should share with you all the amazing scent that has been filling my bedroom at the moment.

The tin version of this candle which I own retails on the Lily Flame website for £8.50  however John Lewis also sell a bigger version in a transparent glass jar for £12 if that kind of packaging appeals to your better.

The scent of this candle is lovely and fresh with a hint of vanilla making it the perfect candle for this time of year I think. I am rubbish at describing scents so I recommend popping into John Lewis and giving this a sniff for yourself but it really is dreamy and whenever I'm burning it and someone walks past my room they always comment on the nice smell.

For those who have not tried anything from the Lily Flame brand I definitely recommend their candles, they have the cutest packaging, the most yummy scents and are really affordable and long lasting. Lily Flame is also a UK based company and all their candles are handmade.

Thanks so much for reading, be sure to comment below your favourite candle at the moment x

The Trend: Grunge

I've never been one to get too obsessed with all things celebrity and makeup trend related, however since the  beginning of the new year I've really been trying to experiment more with my style, in particular how I wear my makeup. The grunge trend this winter has really caught my eye as something that can easily be made appropriate for everyday wear, so here is how I've been achieving the look myself.

Topshop Glow in Polished

I've never been that bothered about highlighters however I have to admit that as soon as I saw the packaging to this cream highlighter in it's frosted glass pot I was instantly sold. I had a weak moment I'll admit it, but thankfully I am pretty impressed with this product and here's why.

Topshop's Glow for £9.00 is a white super creamy highlighter that is so easy to blend to give the most natural pearly glow to the skin. I've always struggled to get on with the glitter in highlighters however the tiny speckles of glitter in Polished blend so well into the complexion, so thankfully there is no Edward Cullen look to your face.

This product has really made me see the benefits of a keeping a good highlighter in your makeup routine and the difference it makes to your complexion giving the most natural looking radiance. As you can tell for just under ten pounds I am pretty darn chuffed with this product.

Thanks for reading, comment below your favourite highlighter x

An Exciting Lip Launch From Revlon

As a Kissable Balm Stain patriot any news regarding Revlon's lip crayon line instantly has been grabbing my attention. As soon as I heard about this launch back in November I have been patiently waiting for the new collection to make a serious hole in my purse. So as a passionate Kissable Balm Stain lover I simply have to share all the deats regarding the massive bomb that is about to drop into the lip crayon market.

Those who love the original Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains need not worry about stocking up on them as they are set to remain in store, every shade just simply rebranded to the Colourburst Crayon Balm Stains. Oh and if you're a mint scent lover like myself don't worry as from what I have gathered the formula hasn't been altered at all, score!

Next up and frankly the most exciting element of the launch for me is the ColourBurst Matte Balm Stains which are made up of 10 gorgeous shades all of which I really want to try after seeing the swatches over on etcllymers. I love matte lipsticks so much but am often put off by the drying element that comes with matte formulations so I am really interested to find out how moisturising these are.

Finally in this epic lip launch from Revlon comes the Colourburst Lacquer Balms which offer a more glossy pigmented finish to the lips again with 10 different shades. The swatches I have seen look perfect for anyone who wants a glossy lip but doesn't like wearing lip glosses like me. Score!

So there you have it, the dates above are definitely worth noting down as I expect these will be of high demand as soon as they hit the shelves, comment below what you think of this launch and whether you will be picking up any for yourself x
